Tasha and I just wanted to wish all you creative ladies out there a very happy 'International Women's Day'.
It turns out our local Gower heritage has some powerful and inspirational ladies in its history, not least Emily Frost Phipps who is credited with founding the suffrage movement in Swansea by establishing the Swansea branch of the Women's Freedom League! She famously boycotted the 1911 census by hiding out in one of our fantastic Gower sea caves!
More information can be found here if you fancy reading a bit more about the amazing life Emily led in championing the rights of women.
The struggles and efforts of the suffrage movement remain an inspiration to all of us, the context may change over time but their efforts remain so relevant even in 2018. February 2018 marked the centenary anniversary of the Representation of the People Act 1918 which entitled some women over the age of 30 to vote for the very first time in the UK in the general election that happened in December the same year. All the more reason why this International Women's Day is a great day to celebrate the efforts and achievements of women across the globe in the last 100 years.
Here's to the inspiration of others!
Happy International Women's Day! :)
